1/100: The Story of the Ostrich Kegler Super is a 15-minute documentary that uncovers the mystery surrounding one of the rarest and most elusive shoes in adidas history. Shot in late June 2025 inside the workshop of shoe designer and restorer Benji Blunt at 1X1Workshop at The Yard, Manchester, and the surrounding areas of Cheetham Hill, the film blends craftsmanship with cultural storytelling to bring this forgotten chapter to life.
Directed by Alexander Bather, the documentary not only traces the origins of the Ostrich Kegler Super 1/100 — created in 2000 to honour Adi Dassler’s centenary — but also explores its cultural significance and the mythology that has grown around it over the past 25 years. The journey begins with one surviving pair, entrusted to Benji Blunt by a mystery collector. Before any restoration work could begin, the shoes were authenticated by Robert Brooks, one of the world’s foremost adidas collectors, whose deep knowledge and experience confirm their place in sneaker history.
The making of the documentary was the result of extensive research and investigation, carried out to ensure that every detail of the story was told with accuracy and authenticity. Information about the Ostrich Kegler Super proved difficult to uncover — with only 100 pairs ever made and no official adidas release or documentation, much of its history existed in fragments, whispers, and collector folklore. Piecing together those fragments became an integral part of the film, revealing not only the shoe itself but also the mystery that continues to surround it.
More than just a restoration project, 1/100 is a meditation on legacy, obsession, and the challenges of preserving history when the past has almost been erased.
